One of the most common and successful ways to lose weight fast and efficient is through exercise. Not only does exercise help to accelerate the calorie burning process but also helps you to keep the weight off permanently. The question that many people ask is: what is the best weight loss exercise. Any type of exercise will help you lose a few pounds but there is a little trick that makes a big difference. Read the rest of the post to get an idea of what we mean.

When it comes to exercise and work out not all people have either the time or the money to join a gym or a ‘formal’ exercise class. This means that the only way to exercise is by undertaking natural physical activities (i.e. walking, jogging, and running) or by utilizing home fitness equipment such as a treadmills, elliptical cross trainers or any of the numerous other exercise machines that can help you exercise at home. This is by no means a disadvantage because home fitness equipment can help you get excellent weight loss results at the comfort of your own home.

We mentioned above that there is a little secret that can help you lose weight with exercise. This little trick is called interval training. The problem with normal work out i.e. doing the same sets and type of exercise is that your body after following that pattern for a while gets used to the exercise, builds up stamina and as a result the exercise is not as effective as it used to be. With internal training you bypass this problem because every time you increase your effort level and you force your body to try more. Then you recover by exercising at your normal pace. When you repeat this pattern for a number of times and each time you increase your effort levels then you will achieve better weight loss results. Your body will try to build up stamina to meet the excess demand and this will require more energy. The more energy you burn the more calories you burn.

Let’s demonstrate the above in an example using one of the most common home fitness equipment, the treadmill. Assume that you normal training program is running 5 km on the treadmill. To practice interval training you should divide the 5km into five sections of 1km each. You can use the treadmill controls to measure the distance you run (Note: you can also do timed interval training with the help of an Interval Timer Watch). For the 1st km you start walking for the first 500 meters and then run at slow pace for the next 500 meters. For the 2nd km you run at a higher intensity but not at full strength. For the 3rd km you run at your full strength. For the 4th km you reduce your intensity again and you end up walking for the 5th km. Remember that you are running to lose weight and not to become a professional runner. Your goal is to put your body through different intensities of workout so that it does not have time to adapt and thus it is burning more calories.
